Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the Jam Jam mobile app and the jam-jam.org website (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

These Terms are provided in several languages for convenience. In case of discrepancy, the French and English versions prevail.

1. The Service

Jam Jam is a music companion: a chord notebook, jam tools, melody editor, import helper and backing-track generator. The core app runs on your device and is fully usable without an account and without an internet connection. A web app is also available on jam-jam.org. Songbook, composer, keyboard and tuner in your browser, kept in sync with the mobile app through your account.

2. Accounts

An account is optional and only enables social and sync features. You sign in with an email one-time code or a supported provider (e.g. Google). You are responsible for the activity on your account. One active session per environment is allowed: a web session and a mobile session can be open at the same time (they stay in sync).

3. Your content

You keep all rights to the songs, chords, lyrics and melodies you create or import (“Your Content”), stored on your device. If you share content with friends or make it public, you grant us a limited licence to host and transmit it solely to provide those features. When an audio file is analysed on our server at your request, in the mobile app or the web app, that file is transmitted for the sole purpose of running that analysis, is deleted as soon as it ends, and gives us no right over it whatsoever.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use, import and share Your Content. Do not upload content that infringes others’ rights. What you publish on your profile becomes visible to other people, to the extent set by the visibility you chose, and you then declare what you know about where it came from.

4. Acceptable use

• Don’t break the law or infringe others’ rights.
• Don’t upload illegal, hateful, or sexually explicit material (avatars are moderated).
• Don’t abuse, overload, reverse-engineer or disrupt the Service.
• Don’t impersonate others or create fake accounts.

5. Subscriptions & pricing

Premium is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. You can buy it through two channels: (a) inside the mobile app via the app store (Google Play, and the Apple App Store where available), or (b) directly on jam-jam.org. It is the same single Premium, unlocked across all your devices whatever the channel; store prices are higher only to absorb the store’s commission.

Store purchases (a): billing, renewal and cancellation are handled by the store under its own terms. Subscriptions renew until cancelled in your store account; manage or cancel them there.

Direct purchases on jam-jam.org (b): the seller is the publisher of Jam Jam (see “Publisher” below). Payment is handled by our processor Stripe. Prices are shown inclusive of VAT. Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel; you can cancel at any time from “Manage my subscription” (via the Stripe customer portal), and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. You keep Premium until then. The lifetime plan is a single payment valid for as long as the Jam Jam service is operated. Your invoices are available at any time from the same management portal, and we send a reminder email before each annual renewal.

Subscription prices may change over time. If you have an active subscription, you keep your current price for as long as your subscription remains active, even if the price increases for new subscribers. If you cancel and later resubscribe, the price in force at that time applies.

The scope of the free tier and of Premium may evolve: features that are free today may become Premium, and new features may be offered as Premium-only. A lifetime purchase you have already made is never revoked.

6. Purchases, refunds & right of withdrawal

For store purchases, refunds are handled by Google Play (or the Apple App Store) under their own policies. For direct purchases on jam-jam.org, your card details are processed by Stripe and are never stored by Jam Jam; likewise, store payment details are handled by the store and never stored by us.

EU consumers, right of withdrawal: Premium is digital content supplied immediately. At checkout you expressly request immediate performance and acknowledge that Premium is available to you right away. For direct purchases on jam-jam.org, you keep a 14-day right of withdrawal: if you withdraw within 14 days, we refund the amount paid in proportion to the service already provided (pro-rata), in accordance with Article L221-28 of the French Consumer Code. For store purchases, the store’s own refund policy applies.

Model withdrawal form. You may use these words, but you do not have to, any unambiguous statement works: “I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the following service: Jam Jam Premium. Ordered on […]. Name: […]. Address: […]. E-mail used for the order: […]. Date: […].” Send it to [email protected]. We acknowledge every withdrawal request and refund within 14 days of receiving it, using the same means of payment you used, at no cost to you.

7. Automatic Assistant

The in-app Automatic Assistant helps clean up imported songs and suggest content. Results may be imperfect and you remain responsible for what you keep.

8. Third-party addresses, and soundtracks you share

You can attach to a song the address of a recording hosted elsewhere. Since 24 August 2026 such an address is information only: Jam Jam embeds no third-party player and plays nothing from those platforms. To hear a song inside the app, you attach an audio file of your own.

What we are, and what we are not. When you publish a song bearing an audio file to your profile, we host that file so the accounts you follow and who follow you back can hear it. We are a host, not a publisher: we do not choose what you upload, we do not rank it by popularity, we do not promote it, and a soundtrack is never audible beyond that mutual circle, whatever the visibility of your profile. That is a deliberate limit, not a missing feature.

What you undertake. You only upload a recording you have the right to share. That means, in practice: your own performance, a work in the public domain, a recording placed under a licence that allows it, or a file for which you hold the rights. Copying a commercial track and passing it to your friends through Jam Jam is not allowed, whatever the format, and this section exists so that no one can claim otherwise afterwards. Before a soundtrack of yours becomes audible to anyone else, the app asks you to declare it explicitly, and records the date and the version of the text you accepted.

When you share a song through a link. A published song has a single address, the one on your profile, and it is the visibility of your profile that decides who can open it: a link never widens the reach of what you published. Before a song becomes visible beyond the accounts you accepted, the app asks you to declare explicitly that you have the right to distribute it that way. We keep the date, the version of the text you accepted and the song concerned. The link never carries a soundtrack: it carries the chords, the lyrics and the structure. It can be reported, and we can cut it off.

A playlist may contain songs other users shared with you. You declare nothing on their behalf: each of those songs stays shared within the limits its own author set, and a playlist link never widens them. What you declare covers what you created, the selection and order of the list, and the fact that nothing, to your knowledge, prevents you from passing on what you received here.

When you allow importing from a link, you allow whoever opens it to copy into their songbook what you shared, including the list itself, its name and its order. You keep every right you hold in that list; you assign nothing to Jam Jam.

Reporting and withdrawal. Every shared soundtrack carries a report control in the app. We examine reports and can withdraw a file without prior notice, and the person who uploaded it is told. Rights holders may also write to [email protected]; the procedure and the recourse open to you are set out in our Copyright & DMCA Policy, and we act without undue delay. Repeated infringement leads to the suspension of the account.

At your explicit request, the app can also save a local copy of the recording on your device, so you can work offline. That copy leaves your device only if you ask it to: it is never sent to our servers on its own, never shared, never backed up online, and it disappears with the song or with the app. One single action can send it, and you are the one who starts it: exporting the karaoke as a video passes the soundtrack to our server for the time it takes to make the video, then erases it (see our Privacy Policy). It is never created automatically. You ask for it. You remain responsible for whether that copy is lawful under your own country’s law and the terms of the platform concerned.

Jam Jam no longer uses YouTube API Services and embeds no YouTube player, so using the app binds you to nothing on YouTube’s side. If you open an address yourself, you are simply visiting YouTube, under its own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

You choose which addresses you add and what you do with them. You confirm that doing so infringes no one else’s rights, and you agree to hold Jam Jam harmless from any third-party claim arising from an address or content that you supplied, or that you chose to make available beyond the accounts you accepted. This undertaking does not cover our own acts, nor anything for which we are liable under mandatory consumer law.

If you hold rights in a work and want a link or shared content withdrawn, write to [email protected]. The procedure, and the recourse open to you, are set out in our Copyright & DMCA Policy; we act without undue delay.

9. Your profile and what you publish on it

What you publish. When you create your profile, public mode is offered to you, but it only takes effect once you confirm you are 15 or older by ticking the box provided, never pre-ticked: otherwise your profile stays private. You can change this choice at any time in settings. While it is private, only the people whose request you accepted see what you put on it. If you make it public, any Jam Jam account can see the songs you chose to publish there and import them into their songbook, and your profile page becomes readable on the web without an account: a visitor who is not signed in sees your username, the titles and the artists, but not the lyrics, which stay reserved for signed-in accounts. Those pages are not indexed by search engines. You can switch back to private at any time: what you had published stops being visible, but the copies already imported stay in the songbooks of those who took them.

Song by song. Nothing is published automatically. Every song you put on your profile is an act of yours, and you can take it down whenever you want.

What you allow us to do. To host and transmit what you publish, you grant us a non-exclusive, free licence limited to that use, for as long as you leave it published. We do not sell it, we do not promote it, we do not reuse it for our own communication and we do not sub-licence it to anyone. When you take a publication down, that licence ends.

What you declare. Before a song becomes visible beyond the accounts you accepted, we ask you to declare, for that publication, what you know: whether you created it, or whether you imported it and nothing, as far as you know, forbids passing it on. We record the date, the version of the text and the song concerned. We do not check and we validate nothing: we record.

Provenance stays attached. When a song comes from a website, the address of that site stays displayed on your publication. You cannot remove it, and that is deliberate: it says where the text came from, and it keeps us from looking like its source.

No soundtrack beyond accounts that follow each other. An audio file attached to a song is never audible to someone you do not follow, or who does not follow you back, whatever the visibility of your profile. Neither a mere follower nor a visitor without an account can reach it.

10. What we are, and what we do with your reports

We are a host. We do not choose what you publish, we do not rank it by popularity, we do not promote it and we recommend none of it. In your feed you get the publications of the accounts you follow, in the order they were published. When you search, you find what you asked for. The “Discover” page suggests accounts, never songs: every suggestion shows the reason behind it, for instance the number of songs you have in common, and you can turn it off in your settings. There is no ranking, no trends and no public counter.

No advertising on the social surfaces. The feed, the “Discover” page, profiles and published-song pages carry no advertising banner, and sharing is never reserved for a paid subscription.

What we check automatically. Profile pictures, usernames, display names and bios go through an automatic check before being visible to others; it refuses what these Terms plainly forbid. If it got it wrong, write to us: a human reviews it again.

What we do not filter. We do not check the songs, chords and lyrics you publish in advance: we do not have the means, and it would amount to watching everything you write. We act on reports.

Comments. You can comment on a published song. A comment follows the same rules as the rest: nothing illegal, nothing hateful, nothing sexually explicit, no harassment, no impersonation and no spam. The person who published the song can delete any comment under their publication, without having to justify it, and every comment can be reported.

Reporting. Every profile, every published song, every list and every comment carries a report command inside the app, and you do not need an account to report a page you can open. A report form is also open to anyone on this website. You can also write to [email protected] for a copyright infringement, or to [email protected] for any other illegal content. We acknowledge receipt, we tell you what we decided and why, and we point you to the redress still open to you.

Blocking. You can block an account: you will no longer see its publications, nor it yours.

11. What happens when content is taken down

The lightest measure that solves the problem. Depending on the case, we may hide a song or a comment, bring a profile back to the circle of accounts it accepted, suspend the ability to publish, or suspend the account. We do not take down a whole profile over one song.

You are told, and you can contest. We write to you: what is targeted, on what grounds, what scope, for how long, and how to contest. You reply, we review again, and if we were wrong we restore.

Repeat cases. 3 upheld takedowns in 12 months suspend your ability to publish for 30 days; beyond that, the account is suspended. We warn you first.

What we keep. 24 months of record of our decisions: the act, the date, who decided, the identifier of the object and the grounds. Neither the removed content, nor the song title, nor the name of the person who reported.

12. Age

Jam Jam is for people aged 13 and over. To make your profile public you must be 15 or over: below that, French law asks for your parents’ agreement for open publication, and we would rather not offer it to you. You can keep sharing with the accounts you accepted. We do not ask you for your date of birth.

13. Disclaimers & liability

The Service is provided “as is”, without warranties. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages or loss of data. Keep your own backups.

14. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from the app. We may suspend access that violates these Terms.

15. Publisher, governing law & mediation

The Service is published by Titouan Wattelet, a sole trader established in France: 173 rue de Courcelles, 75017 Paris. Full details, including the host of the website and how to report illegal content, are on the legal notice page. These Terms are governed by French law, without depriving consumers residing in the EU of the mandatory protections of their country of residence; a consumer may always bring proceedings before the courts of their own place of residence.

In accordance with Articles L612-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, consumers may use a consumer mediation service free of charge before going to court; the mediator’s name and contact details are published on the legal notice page. The European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform closed permanently on 20 July 2025 and is no longer an available route. Please write to us first at [email protected] : most questions are settled directly, and mediation requires a written complaint to us anyway.
