Free online tuner

The Jam Jam online tuner listens to your instrument through your microphone and tells you, in real time, which note you are playing and whether you are sharp or flat. Twenty instruments come with their own presets, from guitar and ukulele to oud and charango, for 79 tunings in all and a chromatic mode, accurate to ±5 cents, covers everything else. No download, no account, no ads: open the page and tune. The tuner is one screen of Jam Jam, the app that finds your songs’ chords, keeps them in a notebook and plays them back.

How to tune your guitar online

  1. Allow the microphone

Open the tuner and grant microphone access: audio stays on your device, nothing is uploaded.

  2. Play one string

Pluck a single open string. The tuner detects the pitch and shows the target note (E A D G B E for standard guitar).

  3. Match the needle

Turn the peg until the needle is centred and turns green: you are perfectly in tune.

  4. Repeat for each string

Work through every string. The chromatic mode also handles drop D, DADGAD, half-step down and any alternate tuning.

Not your average online tuner

21 instruments, not just guitar

Guitar, bass, ukulele, guitalele, mandolin, banjo, violin, viola, cello, oud, bouzouki, balalaika, charango, cavaquinho, shamisen, double bass, lap steel and sitar: 18 of them also share their real tuning with the tab reader.

Alternate tunings built in

Drop D, DADGAD, Open G, Open D, Drop C, half-step down, ukulele low-G and baritone, and more.

Auto string detection + lock

It finds the nearest string on its own, or tap to lock one, and each string plays a reference note in its real instrument voice.

Precise and private

Tuner FAQ

Is this online tuner really free?

Yes: completely free, with no sign-up and no ads. It runs entirely in your browser.

Which instruments can I tune?

Twenty-one instruments have their own presets, from guitar to oud by way of charango and double bass, for 79 tunings in total, drop D, DADGAD, open G and half-step down included. Anything else goes through chromatic mode, which names every note you play.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Open the page, allow the microphone and tune. There is also a Jam Jam app for Android if you prefer to tune offline.

Does it work on my phone or tablet, not just a computer?

Yes: the online tuner runs in any modern mobile browser exactly like on a computer, microphone and all. For daily use offline, the free Jam Jam Android app tunes the same way without needing a connection.

What is the difference between the instrument presets and chromatic mode?

An instrument preset (guitar, bass, ukulele...) shows only the strings that instrument actually has, in the order you would tune them, which is faster for standard tuning. Chromatic mode names any note at all, which is what you want for an odd instrument, a non-standard tuning, or just checking a single note.
