How to separate the vocals and the instrumental of a song

  1. Drop your audio file

Drag an MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG or M4A file onto the page, or pick it on your device. It can be up to 100 MB.

  2. Let the server separate it

Jam Jam splits the vocals and the instrumental on its own server in France. The tool handles one separation at a time.

  3. Listen to the two tracks

Play the vocals and the instrumental to check the result before you download.

  4. Download the tracks

Download each track as Opus or WAV.

What the two tracks are for

Without the vocals, the instrumental becomes a karaoke backing track: you sing over the original arrangement. The same track works as a play-along to rehearse with, whether you play guitar, piano or bass over the band.

The vocals alone, an a cappella, are what you need for a remix, to work on a vocal line, or to hear exactly what is sung.

Engine, formats and limits

Separation by HTDemucs (Meta, code and weights under the MIT licence).

The file can be an MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A or another common audio format, up to 100 MB. A song can last up to 5 minutes without an account and up to 12 minutes with a Jam Jam account, free or Premium. The tool handles one separation at a time.

A separation is never perfect: on a dense mix, a trace of the voice can stay in the instrumental, or the other way round.

Your file and your privacy

The separation runs on Jam Jam’s own server in France, without going through a third party. The file you send is kept only for the time of the separation. The tracks you get are deleted at the latest 7 days later, so download the ones you want to keep.

Drop a song, get the vocals and the instrumental, then download them.
