Free online double bass tuner
A tuner that actually reaches the double bass’s low E, right in your browser.
The Jam Jam double bass tuner listens through your microphone and tells you, in real time, which note is sounding and how far sharp or flat you are. Standard orchestral tuning is E1, A1, D2, G2, a full octave below the electric bass, down to a 41 Hz low E that trips up tuners built for higher instruments. Jam Jam also has the soloist’s tuning, a whole tone up, and a low drop D for a simulated 5th string. In-tune zone at ±5 cents, cents to the unit, frequency to a tenth of a hertz.
How to tune a double bass

Allow the microphone
Open the tuner, pick Double bass and grant mic access: the audio is analysed on your device, nothing is uploaded.

Start from the G string
The highest string is easiest to read. Pluck it, then work down to D, A and the low E.

Give the low E time to settle
At 41 Hz the pitch takes a moment to read clearly; let the string ring and watch the needle settle before adjusting.

Centre the needle
Turn the peg until the needle centres and turns green: that green band is the ±5-cent in-tune zone.

Many tuners latch onto the octave harmonic instead of the true fundamental on a very low string. Jam Jam is built to track the actual pitch that low.

Every string plays its target note with a real double bass timbre, easier to match by ear than a generic beep at that register.

Is this double bass tuner free?
Completely: no account, no ads, nothing to install. It all runs in your browser, and the microphone audio is analysed on the spot. It is never sent to a server.
Why is my low E hard to tune?
At 41 Hz it is a genuinely low fundamental, and some tuners lock onto its octave harmonic instead. Jam Jam’s detection band is built to reach that low, but let the string ring fully before reading the needle.
What is solo tuning?
A whole tone above orchestral tuning, used by soloists so the instrument speaks more brightly under a spotlight. Jam Jam has it as a separate preset alongside standard and low drop D.
