Free online charango tuner

A tuner with the charango's re-entrant tuning built in, right in your browser.

Free online charango tuner

The Jam Jam charango tuner listens through your microphone and tells you, in real time, which note is sounding and how far sharp or flat you are. The standard temple natural sets the five courses to G4, C5, E5, A4, E5: a re-entrant tuning where the middle course is the highest. A second preset, temple bajo, puts everything a tone lower (F4, Bb4, D5, G4, D5). In-tune zone at ±5 cents, cents to the unit, frequency to a tenth of a hertz.

How to tune a charango

  1. Allow the microphone

Open the tuner, pick Charango and grant mic access: the audio is analysed on your device, nothing is uploaded.

  2. Pick temple natural or bajo

Natural is the standard; bajo is the same pattern a whole tone lower, easier on the strings.

  3. Follow the re-entrant order

From the bass side: G4, C5, E5, A4, E5. The middle E is the highest course, not the outer ones.

  4. Match each pair by ear

Tune one string of a course with the needle, then bring its twin onto it until the beating stops.

A tuner that gets the re-entrant order right

Middle course on top

Generic tuners assume low-to-high. The charango preset expects the E5 in the middle and never sends you the wrong way.

Two real temples

Temple natural and temple bajo as separate presets, so a lower-strung charango has its own targets.

Reference note in a charango voice

Every string plays its target note with a real charango timbre, so you can check a string by ear before touching the peg.

Auto, manual or chromatic

It locks the nearest string by itself; one tap freezes a string, another returns to auto. Chromatic mode covers anything outside the presets.

Charango tuner FAQ

Is this charango tuner free?

Completely: no account, no ads, nothing to install. It all runs in your browser, and the microphone audio is analysed on the spot. It is never sent to a server.

Why is the middle course the highest?

That is the re-entrant charango tuning: the courses go G4, C5, E5, A4, E5, so the pitch rises to the middle and falls again. Jam Jam's preset follows that exact order.

What is temple bajo?

The same pattern a whole tone lower: F4, Bb4, D5, G4, D5. Some players use it to lower tension or to match a singer. It is a separate preset.
